Council on the Ageing NT (known as COTA NT) has been working towards a just, inclusive, age-friendly and equitable society for all senior Northern Territorians since 1969. Our mission is to empower older people, those who work with them, government and the community into achieving well-being and social justice for older people.
NT Seniors Card is part of an Australia-wide initiative jointly supported by the Northern Territory Government and private enterprise. The program recognises the valuable contribution of older people to their local community and Territory as a whole. The Seniors Card is issued free and provides access on a range of goods and services provided by participating businesses. The program is managed by Council on the Ageing (Northern Territory).  Any permanent Northern Territory (NT) resident who is 60 years of age or older is eligible for a NT Seniors Card. The Seniors Card is free and provides access to savings on a range of goods and services at participating businesses.
At the stall on Friday COTA NT intends to conduct a survey of senior Territorians, and also people will be able to confirm and update their Seniors Card details.
Dementia Wellbeing
Dementia Wellness is a new service for people living with dementia and their carers. Come and have a chat if you’re looking for support, guidance and ideas for activities to enhance the wellbeing for you and the person you care for.
Carers NT
Carers NT provide information, advice, support and education/training to unpaid carers in the NT, assisting carers to navigate the world of services effectively.  We provide monthly carer support groups where carers can have a chance to relax with other carers and have access to guest speakers / information and free training and education and also assist carers to access respite care for themselves and loved ones.  I will be speaking with people about what a carer is as many carers are not aware that are considered carers and that these supports are available to them.
We here at the YMCA offer a ‘Pryme Movers’ program which focuses on low-impact functional movement on a Tuesday morning at 10.30am (will be back on timetable as soon as we can get more participants again).
The YMCA also offers an ‘Active Adult (AY)’ membership which is solely focused on over 60’s (see attached leaflet).
This membership includes a Health Consultation at no extra cost, in addition to a personalised workout program, focusing on low impact movements specifically tailored to the client’s needs.
This membership also provides access to a variety of classes, all focusing on building flexibility, increasing joint movement and improving core strength & functionality.
